The valve is only one part of an air, exhaust and temperature system.
EGR recirculates part of the exhaust gas to reduce NOx formation. Modern systems may include an electronic actuator, position sensor, bypass and cooler. A flow code alone does not prove that the valve must be replaced.
Why faults develop
Soot and oil vapour form deposits, particularly with urban use, short trips and poor combustion. Thermal cycling stresses the actuator and cooler; an intake fault can create the same symptom.
How we diagnose it
We compare commanded and actual position, air mass, pressure, temperature and sealing. If the mechanics are sound, cleaning and adaptation may be enough; a failed actuator or cooler needs repair or replacement.
Typical repair costs
A simple accessible EGR commonly totals €130–€300, an electronic unit €250–€500 and a cooler assembly or difficult-access job €500–€800. We price it after identifying the version and cause.
